This position is within American Snuff Company—the nation’s second- largest manufacturer of smokeless tobacco products. Its leading brands are Grizzly and Kodiak.

American Snuff Company is seeking to fill a Scientist IV position to support the research, evaluation and development of smokeless tobacco products. The applicant should be experienced in the development and utilization of key ingredients using good laboratory practices (GLP’s) in a regulated environment. This includes the ability to operate, troubleshoot and maintain analytical instrumentation including GC, GCMS, HPLC, HPLCMS and NIR. Previous quantitation experience with mass spectrometry using multiple-reaction-monitoring (MRM) is a plus. Experience in the food, flavor or beverage industries is a plus. The Scientist IV will also support research programs and projects requiring creative thinking, independent research, and interaction with other R&D scientists, product developers, toxicologists, microbiologists and vendors.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct routine and non-routine assays of tobacco products.

  • Manage technical projects and write research reports.

  • Support broad research initiatives to further the understanding and development of new and existing products.

  • Collaborate across Reynolds American functional groups throughout the development process to ensure development is completed within agreed upon timeframes.

  • Collaborate with Operations and Quality to qualify new materials.

  • Provide product development support and scientific insight to the research teams.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or equivalent.

  • Masters in Analytical Chemistry with 3 or years post-degree analytical experience

  • 5 or more years of conducting analytical chemistry research and managing technical projects

  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office software including Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook

Strongly Preferred:

  • An understanding of tobacco chemistry and fermentation.

  • Experience working in a FDA or government regulated business
