ABOUT THE POSITION:

At RAI, theScientific & Regulatory Affairs (S&RA)function bears primary responsibility for coordinating regulatory compliance for RAI’s FDA-regulated tobacco product operating companies. During your summer internship, you will assist the function in providing strategic and tactical leadership through scientific and regulatory support to the business.

As a Summer Intern, you will have Winston-Salem based assignments. The internship will provide challenging assignments and significant exposure to other company functions outside of S&RA.

MAKE AN IMPACT THIS SUMMER:

During the summer of 2019, the S&RA function will be offering internship opportunities in which students will work with ourProduct Stewardship Team. Summer interns will learn about product stewardship, risk assessment, tobacco and regulatory science, and gain unique insight and experience as they work alongside experienced staff. Projects are selected by the program director/mentor. The student will benefit by applying what they have learned in the classroom to support product stewardship and regulatory submission projects.

You will be assigned a challenging research project requiring creative thinking, problem solving, and teamwork as you interact with other personnel throughout our winning organization.

In addition, you will have fun while adding value and encountering outstanding career development support..

TO SUCCEED AS A PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP INTERN IN 2019 YOU SHOULD BE:

  • A student who is working toward an advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a scientific discipline such as toxicology, pharmacology, biological sciences, chemistry, library science, or related fields;

  • Experienced in utilizing sound scientific principles to provide innovative solutions to complex problems;

AND SOMEONE WHO:

  • Has strong scientific and technical writing skills;

  • Has knowledge ofin vivoandin vitrotoxicological studies;

  • Has knowledge of quantitative risk assessment (QRA) approaches;

  • Has excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams;

  • Is willing to relocate to Winston-Salem, NC for the summer.

BY THE END OF YOUR INTERNSHIP YOU WILL HAVE:

  • Spent time with c-suite leadership during a series of leadership roundtable events

  • Gained insight into what it’s like to work here, global development opportunities and career pathways

  • Worked directly with experienced Product Stewardship professionals on a challenging and meaningful project

  • Presented your findings and recommendations to the Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Function including the Leadership Team and key personnel.
