This position is within Reynolds American Services Company—a subsidiary that provides support services, including compliance, HR, law, finance, information management, and more to all of the subsidiaries of RAI.
TheSenior Financial Analyst, Regulatory Taxis a multi-dimensional position with a variety of responsibilities to ensure the Company’s compliance with Federal, State and Local indirect tax laws and regulations governing manufacturing and distribution activities of RJRT, ASC, SFNTC, RJR Vapor (including RJR Vapor LLC – e-commerce).
This position focuses on Federal Excise, State and Local Excise, Property Tax, Sales and Use Tax, Customs Imports and Duty Drawback. Each of these areas is complex, involving the external environment, as well as interfacing with several internal departments within the operating companies.
This position performs varied assignments with minimum supervision.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure all tax payments and reporting along with necessary tax analysis and compliance work are completed satisfactorily within established due dates avoiding any interest and penalties.
Requires a high level of business partnering with other departments in providing guidance in development, implementation and maintenance to systems of accountability within the operating companies.
Ensure transactions pertinent to above indirect tax areas are documented in accordance with internal control procedures.
Proactively assist in providing information as needed during a governmental tax compliance audit review.
Maintain various Federal and State indirect tax related permits and other qualifying documents required to conduct business.
Perform necessary research in assigned area to develop strategies in handling unusual and unique activities conducted by the business.
May be responsible for performance of various internal controls related for SOX compliance
Continually look for opportunities to streamline existing processes to promote organizational and operational efficiencies.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (Business or Accounting) or equivalent of 4 – 5 years tax experience.
Detailed knowledge of applicable governmental laws and regulations.
Good working knowledge of applicable Company systems (i.e. SAP, Vertex, WMS, etc.)
Ability to effectively manage delegated projects
Ability to effectively to interact with other departments and governmental officials.
Strong analytical skills
Demonstrated excellent PC skills and detailed knowledge of MS Office.
Excellent interpersonal skills
Must be detail oriented, reliable, and financially responsible
Must possess a high sense of urgency and work ethic
Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision, with the expectation of working as a motivated and cooperative team member
