Senior Director – Data Science
We are seeking a talented, driven and highly motivated individual to join our Strategy, Planning, and Insights team as aSenior Director of Data Science. In this critical role, you’ll work across our portfolio of iconic brands, next-generation nicotine products on advanced analytics projects, bringing strong data analysis and strategic thinking as the principal point person supporting the Commercial and Revenue Growth Management (RGM) teams. You will use your comprehensive analytical skills to guide these teams in the utilization of quality, data-driven insights, helping to deliver our strategic goals. As theSenior Director of Data Science, you’ll lead the team in the development of new insights, advanced modeling techniques, and data science capabilities. You will help establish actionable KPIs and success metrics and ensures that there is timely and accurate delivery of reports and insights. And, in this strategic role, theSenior Director of Data Scienceleverages data science tools and techniques in analyzing large data-sets that enables the team to develop custom models and algorithms to uncover insights, trends, and patterns in the data that will help us make better decisions.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing teams and working cross-functionally to leverage commercial, RGM, and consumer analytical opportunities through quantitative approaches, machine learning methods, as well as experience using advanced statistical methods and data mining techniques. Success in the role will require outstanding quantitative and technical skills plus strong multi-level collaboration and business acumen with the ability to excel at end-to-end analysis.
This position will report to the SVP Strategy & Planning and will have 3 direct reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the design, resourcing, implementation and execution of the company’s newly-established data science team
Oversee development of a wide array of analytical approaches and modeling, leveraging technological resources inclusive of regression engines, artificial intelligence and scenario planning modules
Develop performance management metrics for the data science team, ensuring appropriate tracking and reporting to the broader organization
Own the development and continuous improvement of sophisticated RGM pricing, promotion, assortment, and trade tools that will provide a competitive advantage
Proactively develop and implement new analytic projects in response to ongoing business needs
Lead the management of data from a range of sources to develop an in-depth understanding of our business, identify areas of opportunity, and lead the execution of projects to improve commercial outcomes
Lead and collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams creating a high-functioning and healthy data ecosystem and build data tools (predictive models, automated reports, ad hoc analyses, etc.) that provide actionable insights
Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for data mining and analysis
Provide internal and external stakeholders with data-driven narratives about commercial opportunities and patterns to drive strategic decision making
Serve as in-house subject matter data expert and trusted advisor to the RGM, Business Intelligence, and IT teams
Take the initiative and stays up to date with the latest data science trends, techniques, and best practices, determining how to incorporate the most suitable practices
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in related discipline (e.g., statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics)
8+ years of analytics and modeling experience, preferably related to RGM, retail scan data and pricing/promotion management, FMCG industry experience a plus
Demonstrated and successful experience leading a data science team through the implementation of new data science models, tools, and techniques that lead to improvement of business performance due to a continued culture of informed decision-making.
Strong oral and written communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to influence and secure cross-functional support
Curious and passionate about the power of data and analytics to drive meaningful results
Successful experiences leading and developing others
