Sr. Manager Owned Retail Activation – VUSE Owned Stores/Owned Vape Shops

Job Summary

Senior Manager, Owned Retail Activation will lead our owned stores and owned vape shop channel expansion and activation strategy for RJ Reynold’s portfolio of next generation products. The Senior Manager Owned Retail will play an instrumental role in driving new to world channel strategies to accelerate next generation product awareness and growth. This position will be responsible for executing all aspects of retail activation in owned retail from concept to construction. The senior manager is expected to demonstrate strategic creative thinking and be able to thrive in the ambiguity of innovation while inspiring internal and external service provider teams to deliver established commercialization goals with a results-oriented approach.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works with internal and external partners to align strategic direction of RJRT owned retail concept to include RJRT Legal and External Affairs (LEX), Finance, Brand Marketing and the Retail Activation teams.

  • Manages performance of turnkey retail construction companies related to project timelines, budget and completion of retail buildouts ready for store opening.

  • Collaborates with New Channel Development (NCD) strategy team for presence and marketing programs.

  • Works closely with national Real Estate Broker partners to identify potential owned retail locations. This includes the process of identifying, executing LOI and signing retail leases with LEX.

  • Works closely with LEX related to external contracts necessary for transactions, including real estate contracts, construction contracts and lease negotiations.

  • Works with internal and external partners to establish consumer data research for decision support on preferred retail location.

  • Manages agency personnel responsible for Retail Consumer Engagement, setting in store performance metrics; Cultivates owned store employees through continuous training and mentorship, setting obtainable performance goals, and providing clear communication and constructive feedback.

  • Manages supply chain and program management through RJRT Trade Marketing Development to include Customer Service support.

  • Steers end-to-end Owned store commercialization process ownership and management (direct and influenced). Leads owned brand integrated activity plan for assigned categories. Follows processes that ensure brand presence is seamlessly integrated and aligned with relevant internal teams.

  • Communicates and trains planned consumer integrated brand activity and program execution by store employees within owned retail.

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to align retail activation strategy with owned vapor company’s retail expansion plan. Long term plan to convert fully to VUSE Inspiration store concept; works with NCD team to develop and execute store in store presence and consumer education/activation plan.

  • Leads regular updates with Director Owned Retail Activation to ensure strategic alignment with the national activation team.

  • Serves as key owned store execution expert providing regular project updates and information related to strategic opportunities, roadblocks and recommendations to strengthen owned store performance strategy.

  • Develops SOPs specific to store operation. Responsible for analyzing in store processes to identify best practices, benchmarks, and back of house operations to include inventory management, pricing, presence and consumer engagement, in collaboration with RJRT internal teams.

  • Drives appropriate level of standardization of processes across the retail stores.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years experience with a combination of project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives) and retail store merchandising including placement and promotion.

  • Experience collaborating with internal resources and external stakeholders to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and timelines.

  • Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels within an organization.

  • Knowledge of logistics and the effect on store inventory, shelf life, and the results these areas have on Company profitability.

  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUM function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).

  • Basic skill level in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: inserting, rearranging, hiding and deleting slides, navigating between slides, increasing list level, adding, centering and editing text, changing views, inserting a table or a note, moving objects, printing outline view and/or running a slide show).

  • Basic level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: opening a document, cutting, pasting and aligning text, selecting font type and size, changing margins and column width, sorting, inserting bullets, pictures and dates, using find and replace, undo, spell check, track changes, review pane and/or print functions).

  • At least 2 years of experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and budgets.

  • At least 2 years of experience working with cross functional teams.

  • Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state, including by airplane).


  • Bachelor’s Degree required – Marketing or Retail Management a plus

  • Graduate Degree (MBA) and/or prior marketing experience a plus
