This position is within Reynolds American Services Company—a subsidiary that provides support services, including compliance, HR, law, finance, information management, and more to all of the subsidiaries of RAI.


RAI Services Company (RAIS) isseeking a qualified, detail-oriented Senior Scientist within vitroexperience to support the assessment of tobacco products consistent with RAIS’ Growth, Innovation and Harm Reduction platforms. The Nonclinical Studies – Senior Scientist will coordinate, monitor, review and report the results from standardizedin vitrotoxicology assays conducted at Contract Research Organizations (CROs) for multiple tobacco product platforms. Additionally, this individual will maintain awareness of current/new developments (industry, scientific and regulatory), specifically in the field of genetic toxicology, and drive evaluation of newin vitroassays at CROs. Strong project management skills and clear communication of scientific data with good documentation practices will be essential.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to outsource, design, oversee, and interpret chemical and toxicological studies to support product development and regulatory submissions

  • Reviewin vitrotoxicological and relevant cross-functional scientific data and reports relevant to biological assay work (e.g. chemistry and/or statistical analyses)

  • Write and/or edit scientific manuscripts/presentations and present data both internally and externally

  • Actively engage and partner/collaborate with various internal and external stakeholder groups

  • Perform laboratory site visits to ensure CRO technical and GLP regulatory competency, as appropriate

  • Maintain awareness of current/new developments, specifically in the field of genetic toxicology

  • Oversee projects to meet deliverable schedules and budget requirements


Required Education:

  • BS/BA Degree required in Toxicology, Cellular Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or closely related discipline but a Ph.D. is strongly preferred.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience conductingin vitroresearch and/or molecular toxicological studies

  • Ability to successfully manage and execute multiple similar or related projects simultaneously, often under time constraints

  • Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Track record of publication and presentation of scientific data

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally


  • Experience working in a GLP environment as a Study Monitor or Study Director for product-related studies outsourced to contract research organizations (CROs)

  • Basic understanding of the tobacco industry and the FDA/CTP emerging guidelines and regulatory requirements for tobacco products

  • Experience with oversight or conduct of genetic toxicology assays

  • Established publication record in peer-reviewed journals; including primary authorship

  • Knowledge of biological mechanisms underlying smoking-related diseases
