SENIORITY LEVEL: Experienced Non-Management Level

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Utilities Engineer is responsible for maintaining the NovaTech control system and associated SQL databases, implementing HMI and software control changes to support Utility process requirements, and providing historical data to support Management’s needs.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
The Utilities Engineer ensures controls minimize cost to produce chilled water, compressed air and steam as well as provides 100% uptime of systems for Manufacturing’s support.
Reports to: Master Engineer
Core Relationships: External- Utilities Operations Staff

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
Serves as a productive project team member delivering high quality results for assigned tasks. Assists the project manager with project planning by assisting with the development of work plans, effort estimates and delivery timelines for assigned tasks
Builds expertise in Project Management discipline by leading and delivering projects (on time, within scope and within budget).
Assists in the identification, development, testing and implementation of new technologies, processes and services to provide the most efficient solutions to accomplish goals.
Effectively engages with contracted vendor services providing input to help monitor and improve the vendor’s performance.
Maintains awareness of emerging technology and communicates value/impact for supported functions.
Analyzes business and client needs to ensure that their big data platform related needs are supported, forecasted, incorporated into technology roadmaps and ultimately implemented in a platform as a service model.
Builds data pipelines to data lakes for new data sources and also data extractions to Data Science solutions and Reporting tools.
Creates POC data science/reporting solutions and explains the solutions to the stake holders.
Operationalize the Models in production and monitors the model drift and data drift.
Troubleshoot software controls, databases, and hardware problems
Coordinating system changes with IT, vendors, and operations
Modify control software for operation’s support
Monitor, report and develop applications and programs to ensure equipment and system efficiencies are maximized
Supply technical support to any projects or initiatives the include Utility aspects or are associated with Utilities systems
Export data from SQL and provide well organized Excel spreadsheets for analysis
Modify or generate loop sheets and P&IDs
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
Programming of industrial controls and control loops
Working knowledge of MySQL databases, queries and scripting
General knowledge of Microsoft Server
Strong skills in MS Excel
Troubleshooting of industrial instrumentation and controls
Working knowledge of the psychrometric chart
Working knowledge of the fundamentals of steam, compressed air, vacuum, HVAC, air washers and chilled water along with mechanical equipment which produces the media
Solid knowledge of instrumentation
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
Strong analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills with an ability to recommend continuous improvements
Demonstrates self-motivation, personal leadership, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability and commitment to drive change and improvements
Strong desire to learn, understand and apply technologies
Strong organizational skills
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 2 years related experience
AA Degree in Industrial Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology or related field with 4 years related experience
Basic electrical knowledge of motors and motor control circuits
Allen-Bradley PLCs and programming
Fundamental understanding of networks and their basic configurations
Use of volt meters for 120v to 600V circuits and DC low voltage controls
Understanding of Modbus (+/TCP), BACnet, A-B, NovaTech I/O and other IO families.
Fundamental understanding of networks and their basic configurations
Industrial PPE and safety
